Duke Energy Progress in discussions with NCEMPA

Elizabeth City, NC - “I am extremely ecstatic to learn that Duke Energy Progress and the North Carolina Eastern Municipal Power Agency (NCEMPA) are currently in discussions to consider the purchase of NCEMPA generation assets to Duke Energy Progress. I am for any agreement that will lower electricity rates for the people of our great city and put more money in their pockets. For decades the debt accrued by the NCEMPA fell on the backs of Elizabeth City residents who are currently hampered by the high cost of electricity. With more than a quarter of our residents living at or below the poverty level hopefully these discussions signal the dawn of a new day in Elizabeth City.  I will have no further comment on this matter until my colleagues and receive a briefing from ElectriCities.”
