The Fierce Urgency of Now- VOTE!

Is this really America? I'm 27 years old, and I've never seen so much hate, vitriol, and outright racism in my entire life. Yes, the year is two thousand and eighteen; and yes black and brown people in American are still subject to: unfair sentencing, racial profiling, and death in the hands of law enforcement. It's hurtful and shameful. Is this the new normal? Or is it even new at all?  Maybe it’s the fact that social media and smart phones are now capturing, what would normally only be known to a few. So many of you, like myself are sick and tired; and wondering if America will ever recover from this painful chapter in our history. We realize that we are so much better than this. And in realizing that, we understand that we are in a fight to protect our freedom and values. It's imperative that we understand the concept of freedom. When we understand the concept we know what freedom looks like, and what it does not look like.

Coretta Scott King once said “Freedom is never truly earned; you earn it and win it in every generation.” We who believe in freedom cannot rest. Our ancestors fought, bled, and died for us to have the liberties that we have today. That's why this midterm election is so very critical. We must exercise our sacred right to change, but that’s not enough. In order to truly make progress, we must build grass roots coalitions in our communities. And organize around shared issues. Voting alone is not good enough. You heard it many times over the last few months, but I must echo the same sentiments again. We are on the cusps of the most important election of our lifetime, and we must as Dr. King once said, 'seize the fierce urgency of NOW!" Everything that our ancestors fought for is at stake tomorrow.

When we vote tomorrow, we will send a powerful message. We will send a message that hate, bigotry, and exclusivity will not win! We will send a message that more walls are not the answer, but bridges are! We will send a message that foreign interference in our elections will not be tolerated! We will send a message that what unites us is far greater than what will ever divide us! We will send a message that Black Lives Matters! We will send a message that regardless of your sexual orientation, religion, creed, or race, your life matters. We will send a strong and clear message of hope, equality, and inclusion for all of God’s children. No matter how dark and divisive it may seem right now, we must not give up. We still have hope, and with that hope we must seize this moment and get to work. With this hope, I believe that the sun will shine brighter than ever tomorrow!! We who believe in freedom cannot rest!! Seize this critical moment and fight like you've never fought before! Seize the fierce urgency of now and go VOTE!!
