Statement on
the first City Council Meeting
Elizabeth City, NC- In an effort to provide more transparency and
accountability to his constituents, Councilman King will provide a written
statement after Council meetings and will distribute them to his constituents,
the press, and anyone who requests one. The statements will also be available
on Councilman King’s official Facebook page. Please email mking@cityofec.com to request a statement.
“I
want to commend my colleagues on council for a respectful and very professional
first meeting of 2014. This is how the citizens of Elizabeth City expect us to conduct
ourselves when handling city business, and hopefully this is how we will
continue to conduct ourselves going forward. It doesn’t mean we will agree on
everything, however we must remember that our constituents elected us to work
together to tackle issues. That being said I appreciate each member for warmly
welcoming me on council.
The first two recipients of the
Downtown Improvement Grant were awarded last night. I want to thank River City CDC
and Carlton D. Thornton for being the first to apply, and I commend them on
their willingness to improve the aesthetics of our historic downtown.
Finally, I want to congratulate
my colleague Pastor/Councilman Darius J. Horton for introducing and sponsoring
policy to re-implement prayer at all council and city committee meetings.
Furthermore, I want all of my constituents to know that I am accessible at any
time, except during class. Please contact me for any questions, comments, or
concerns. Next week I will release a press statement with my office hours to
make myself more accessible to the people I serve. Together we will build a
stronger and brighter Elizabeth City.”
